Poetry for Warning

Brute

Drink not this cup purporting 'love'
For it may you defile
Its sweet-mouthed taste, its fragrant air
Do but conceal its bile

My words that flattered could deceive
Was evil their intent?
They cooed they preened they sought to groom
Was what they said quite meant?

Behind the charm of love's facade
Lies a twisted darkened place
Where demons stalk their gentle prey
whilst offering fond embrace

Such heartless hurt has sullied you
Defiled your love for me
Diminished something oh so good
With wanton cruelty

So take love's silver stake in hand,
My heart awaits your thrust.
Destroy this brute that lurks within
And claim the Love you trust.
