Poetry for Ending

The Tomb

A striven undertaking,
deepening the pitting,
colluding undertaker
heavy heaped up whole

The sum of awful reckoning
past times numbing
wilful life done passing
worlds woeful ages past

Gravity descending
to grave understanding
condolence ever fleeting
spurning scant souls flight

Ashes that were roses
falling not arising
chilling reaper numbering
the scything of the days

Kindred recognising
kindling no burning
steeped in dust but dusting
flecks off life descending

Nowhere now the no-thing
crawling into blackness
creeping worm-embracing
darkness, nothing, night.
